St's new bidirectional current detection amplifier brings high detection accuracy and low material costs to industrial and automotive applications

Jessie March 11, 2024

ST's bidirectional current detection amplifier TSC2020 has an input voltage of 100V, internal fixed gain, high current detection accuracy, and circuit protection design and set gain usually do not require external components, saving space. Target applications include servers, power tools, industrial motor control, power supplies, etc. The new products are also AEC-Q100 certified for use in automotive systems such as electric window lifts, battery management systems (BMS) and electric drive inverters.

The TSC020 is suitable for high and low side current detection, and the common mode voltage range is wide from -4V to 100V, which can be used in automotive power systems above 48V. The high-precision internal circuit ensures that the input offset voltage is within ±150µV, which helps to significantly reduce the size of the external shunt resistor and reduce power dissipation. Excellent low pressure drop detection helps minimize measurement errors. The common-mode rejection ratio is higher than 100dB, ensuring stable and reliable detection accuracy when common mode voltage fluctuations are present in applications such as current-mode motor control. In addition, the amplifier improves PWM rejection, ensuring high noise resistance in motor drivers and switching power converters.

In addition to saving on external components and material costs, the TSC020 has a 20V/V fixed gain, which ensures high current detection accuracy, while also providing excellent stability with a gain error of 0.3% and temperature drift of 3.5ppm/°C. In addition, no calibration is required.

The TSC2020 is now in mass production and is available in both SO8 and Mini SO8 packages. Both industrial-grade and auto-grade products are included in ST's 10-year product life assurance program to ensure long-term product availability.
