ROHM Co., Ltd. (" Rohm "), a leading global semiconductor manufacturer, and ST (" ST "), a leading global semiconductor manufacturer supplying semiconductors to various electronic devices, announced that SiCrystal GmbH (hereinafter "SiCrystal"), part of the Rohm Group, will extend its current long-term supply contract for 150mm SiC wafers, which has been running for several years.

The expanded contract provides for the supply of SiC wafers produced in Nuremberg, Germany, to ST over the next several years and is expected to result in a transaction value of more than $230 million during the contract period.

Geoff West, Executive vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at ST, said: "By expanding our long-term SiC wafer supply contract with SiCrystal, we are able to secure additional demand for 150mm SiC wafers. This will help expand the production capacity of the corresponding products and ensure the supply of global customers in the automotive and industrial equipment sectors. In addition, maintaining a good balance between internal and external capacity in each region will help improve the resilience of the supply chain and promote long-term development in the future."

Robert Eckstein, President and CEO of the Rohm Group SiCrystal, said: "SiCrystal is part of the Rohm Group, a leading SiC company, with many years of experience in SiC wafer production. We are pleased to have extended this supply contract with our regular customer ST. Going forward, we will support our partners in expanding their SiC business by continuing to increase the supply of 150mm SiC wafers and always providing high reliability products."

SiC power semiconductors are known for their excellent energy efficiency and can facilitate the electronic development of automotive and industrial equipment in a more sustainable way. By promoting efficient energy generation, distribution and storage, SiC can provide strong support in the transition to cleaner mobility solutions and industrial processes with fewer waste emissions. It will also help provide a more reliable power supply for resource-intensive infrastructure such as data centers where AI is used.
